John the Baptist knew something about his life that many
followers of Jesus seem to never learn: your life is a reflector. What you
reflect is whatever shines on you. Jesus, who is Light, should be the One
others are seeing as they look at your life. The secret of being an effective
mirror is to make sure the mirror is clean. Beware of anything that will
tarnish or spot that mirror. It is not the obvious bad things that will spot
our mirror, it will be something good, but not the best. It is the life that
“is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3) that shines forth the glory of
