Have you ever struggled over Jesus’ words, “Many are called,
but few are chosen” (Matthew 22:14)? I believe all are called. The “everyone”
of the Gospel means “all.” The issue is that while everyone is called, few
actually respond and prove they are among the chosen. The calling of God is not
a demanding call; God is a perfect gentleman. God openly says, “Come.” The
choice is ours. Having heard the call and responded, we are now responsible to
do what is expected of us as followers. Our behavior will declare that we are
among those who have been chosen. In humility and brokenness, we will live out
our lives for the One who was broken for us. – Ron Friesen
