A lesson from the Garden: Do not despair

This is Holy Week in the life of the Christian Church. I will be sharing lessons from the Garden.

Today’s lesson: Do not despair.

In the Garden of Gethsemane the disciples should have stayed awake; instead they fell asleep. Awakened by Jesus, they were overcome by despair. Many times in our lives we experience the irreversibility of an event. What has been done cannot be undone. In the human perspective there is a certain truth to this despair; in the spiritual perspective it is not the end of the road. Jesus says, “Get up and let’s face the next moment.” Filled with the inspiration of the Divine presence, we respond with confidence based not on our feelings but our absolute trust in God. Never let today’s failure defeat your next move. – Ron Friesen
