Who isn’t interested in a bargain? Free! Did you say,
“Free?” Yet when God offers the Good News of a life for the taking, many will
protest: “There must be something I have to do get such a gift of love!”
“Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you
who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk without money and
without cost.” (Isaiah 55:1)
The only requirement for receiving the gift of God’s love
and mercy is the humility to know you are needy. This requirement is a
stumbling block to many whose pride keeps them from admitting any need. In a culture
that celebrates self-sufficiency, it is not easy to confess one’s neediness.
