It is amazing how the human quest for justice beats in our
breasts day after day. Read or listen to the news noting how often people are
seeing justice for their cause. The cry for justice rings out Syria, Turkey, Egypt,
Northern Ireland, Tibet and in the in street corners of every city and village.
The cry seeks the fulfillment of the promise given by the prophet Isaiah:
“In love a throne will be established; in faithfulness a
man will sit on it — one from the house of David —
one who in judging
seeks justice and speeds the cause of righteousness.” (Isaiah 16:5)
Any justice worth seeking will flow from a compassionate
heart filled with love and commitment. Isaiah is pointing to the One who has
laid down his life to create the level ground so we can all knell at the throne
of the One who judges in righteousness. Before we can seek justice for our
neighbor or for ourselves, we must worship at the heavenly throne who “speeds
the cause of (our) righteousness.” – Ron Friesen

ReplyDeleteAs I have stated before - the problem is religion - "My God is greater than your God". Or better, "What I believe is right and what you believe is wrong.
Protestants scorn Catholics, you know about the Shiites and the Sunnis, Nazi Germany and the Jews - now the Middle East and the Israelis and the Arabs (that is a much about land as it is about God) - and we all worship the same God - the God of Abraham (starting a book on Abraham next week).

ReplyDeleteRon, I can't make any sense of truth to the premise you put here tring to tie the civil war in Syria with love for God as Christians see it. The people running away or dying in Syria are crying but not for the promise of the profit Isaiah, they are crying for someone to kill Assad. And my bible has a different translation, "When the oppressor is no more, and destruction has ceased, and marauders vanished from the land, then a throne shall be established in steadfast love in the tent of David, and on it shall sit in faithfulness a ruler who seeks justice and is swift to do what is right." Look this broader section of the bible deals with pleas and threats for Moabites to treat refugees/true people of God well baiting them that to do so God will have more interest in Israel's success.
