All of us have a shadow side: a side hidden to us or, at
minimum, a side that we refuse to acknowledge. This shadow side is often
exposed when we hear of someone’s failures and we pump ourselves up by
declaring, “I am not like that!” If we would stop for a moment we would quickly
know that we have committed the same sins and, if not, the potential to commit
the same failures exist inside of us. Our inability to acknowledge our
weaknesses or potential weaknesses keeps us from fully experiencing the victory
God has planned for us. Jesus says to us, “If you had known…in this day, the
things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes” (Luke
19:42). Keep your heart and mind open to God’s transforming power. – Ron
