No self-made people here

No self-made people here

Our society celebrates those who are “self-made.” Of course, there is no such thing as a self-made person; everyone is the result of at least the meeting of an egg and sperm which is then developed in the life of a mother and then in a family. The belief that we can make something of ourselves is so strong that we often fail to see the role others might have played. As followers of Jesus, we confess that we are unable to remake ourselves. We tried – we even confessed our sins. In humility, we bow our knees, resigning from our prideful “self-made” status. We have come to understand and know that it through the work of what Christ did on the cross and what he is doing in our hearts that brings a new life. – Ron Friesen

  1. Though I understand your point of view, I also understand the "self made" argument. Most of the time it's not the individual claiming he or she are self made, but the rubber neckers labeling the accomplished. Self made in the terms that is used in most cases are those that worked really hard to get where they're at. Who do they owe their success to? You'll get different answers.
