The way of love....

There is a way and there is a way. I am sure we have all experienced being spoken to in ways that are unpleasant. No one appreciates being yelled at, spoken down to, called names, and put down, Then there are the non-verbal put offs: rolling of the eyes, shrug of the shoulders, the lifting of the shoulder and turn away. While the human race has been great strides in technology, our capacity to communicate in ways that reflect our increased knowledge has not increased. Currently, knowledge is doubling every twelve months, soon the knowledge will be doubling every twelve hours. We are becoming smarter but less civilized. According to a 2012 Rasmussen poll, 76% of Americans thought we are becoming less civilized. What would happen if we followed the exhortation of St. Paul:

Follow the way of love ….” (I Corinthians 14;1).

What would happen if instead of being rude, we actually practiced the way of love? If we smiled and acknowledged one another. If we invited each other to tell us why they fell so strongly about some thing instead of yelling louder to make our point. If we stopped to listen to each other instead of thinking of our response.

For years we had a rule on our refrigerator: Three compliments; one complaint

Today would be a good day to practice the way of love.
