The Gift!

The Divine Lover is a bounteous giver. Love gives.

St. Paul describes the Divine Lover’s generosity this way:

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good” (I Corinthians 12:7-11).

Each of us is different so we receive different gifts yet the gifts come from the same Divine Lover. Do we see the power here? We may have different skin tones, we may have differing genders, we are of various generations, yet we are one in the source of our gifts. No room for boasting here. In humility we say to each other, “you, too?”

Our gifts are for the common good as we reflect the Giver. The Divine Lover is generous in the giving; we dare not be less than generous with our giving. Not only will the world will be poorer if we misuse our gifts, so will our souls.

What Divine Love gives us is a gift to us; what we do with the gift is our gift to the Giver..
