Spiritual Hunger

Spiritual hunger is all around us especially in the church. We say we hunger for a sign of God’s presence and power. We want God to show himself to us both as an inward experience of joy and excitement and an outward experience of healing and reality. There is a problem in our questing; we want the experience of God before we have done what God tells us to do.
Why doesn’t God show himself to us? It isn’t because he cannot do it; God reveals himself in response to our obedience. God does not reveal himself for our selfish happiness; God reveals himself to bring glory to his name. The very moment that we do what he says, God bears witness to us of his true nature in us. If we received the inner witness before the reality that comes by obedience, it would only bring a sentimental, momentary emotion. But when we act out of obedience that comes from our life in God, we would immediately experience the fullness of the waters that flow from the throne of God. Do not argue with the reasonableness of the demands of the Gospel, simply obey and you will find yourself abundantly full of God’s presence. As soon as you give up your own reasoning and arguing and obey, God will release a banquet of goodness and mercy that will leave amazed at your disrespect in having kept God waiting to show himself to you.
“We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.” Acts 5:32

  1. Is there a term given to us who accepted God yet realize we were powerless to affect change decide to be human! Faith is what I have yet like Job question this! I once worried that my attitude is why I can't let go and let God! Am I of any importance? Not according to society or I'd have what others who put forth time and effort have! I'm seen as the one people are warned would happen if one chooses to smoke! Not as the once promising adolescent counselor!
Do I sound angry? Yes God is alive as he has kept me from being tonight's news!

  2. Don, Thank you for reading and commenting. I am glad I can read your thoughts here and not see you on the evening news. You continue to demonstrate you are a man of character even in face of many difficulties. Ron
