A
world-changing God
There
is a search for God in our churches today. There is a certain zeal for God but
it is a benign God. We want a God of loving kindness but not a God of loving
power. We want a God who will humanize us just enough to make people like us
for a day or two. We are not interested in a God of moral perfection or loving
judgment. There is no “Thank you, God,
for disciplining me today and showing me my faults.” We want a heavenly Father
who will meet our earthly aspirations. When we say “I am not asking for much,
just a comfortable bed and a nice family,” then any pagan god will do. If you
want to change the world, though, you will need a robust God who judges the
hearts and minds of all inviting them to come to the Cross where all human
wills die and the Divine will is born anew. – Ron Friesen
