Fanatics or followers?

Many think that the Christian faith is about fanatically believing some ideas. When Jesus spoke to the men beside the Sea of Galilee, he didn’t say, “Come, follow my cause,” or “Come, follow my ideas.” He simply said, “Come, follow me.” There were many wise men in Jesus’ day who were saying, “Come. Join me and my school of thought.” Jesus didn’t call people to a new idea; he called them to a new way of life, a new lifestyle: a new way of being in the world. Ideas invite fanaticism; a way of life invites faithfulness. God is more impressed by faithfulness than fanaticism. – Ron Friesen
