The Christian life is about transformation. It is not about
becoming nice men but new men. Nice men will not change our world; new men have
the power to change our world. One way that St. Paul speaks about this
transformed life is to use this expression: “Christ is formed in you”
(Galatians 4:19). The word translated “formed” is an interesting one. It does
not mean that God shapes us; it means that our being, our life, our essence is
so taken over by the Spirit of Christ that Christ is one who looks out of our
eyes and his words come of our mouth. The cocoon is not reshaped into a
butterfly; the cocoon is shed and the butterfly comes out of the cocoon through
metamorphosis. In the same way, our old ways of acting, thinking and being fall
off as Christ is formed in us and comes out of us to a broken, hurting world. –
