State of the human race?

What is the state of the human race? Many people the human race is flawed to its core.

Dr. Brumhall argues that the human race is flawed to its core. One of her observations is that we are selfish and greedy people. William E. Gladstone noted, “Selfishness is the greatest curse of the human race.” We cannot help it. St. Paul agreed:

“There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came
by Christ Jesus (Romans 3:22-23).”

There would be a very limited movie and television business if the human race was perfect. I often stay that the existence of every state legislature and the US congress is proof of the imperfection of the human race. Who needs laws against stealing and murder if the human race is honest and kind? Who needs an office of weights and measures if every gallon of gas is a gallon, every pound of hamburger is a pound and every 8 ounces of cheddar cheese is 8 ounces? The human race is far from perfect.

The Biblical assessment is correct: we are all sinners. Some would argue, “I am honest. I don’t cheat my boss. I am give to the United Way.” If this is true you might want to read yesterday’s post. Here is the good news: There is forgiveness. Not because we are good but because Jesus is good enough for us. It is a gracious gift from a loving God.
