How then should we respond

In light of a recent decision of the US Supreme Court to recognize same sex marriages, here are some of my thoughts:

The issue for the evangelical church (EC) is "how to sing the Lord's song in a foreign land." (See Psalm 137). The EC has presumed that it is the culture-setter. The EC has been drawn into the belief that it can legislate its moral convictions on the nation while forgetting that human hearts are changed by conversion. The seduction of the EC by a branch of the GOP lead by Karl Rove was recognized by the face of EC, Dr. Dobson. In 2007, Dr. Dobson openly spoke about sitting out the 2008 election because he realized he has been used as a tool by Rove. Dr. Dobson realized that he has been used and dis regarded by his own party. Realizing that it has failed to achieve its goals for a cultural revolution that favored its agenda, the EC would do well to realize that they were never called to be a moral majority but to be the salt and light of the earth, to realize that their citizenship is in heaven not in Washington, DC. It is time for ECs to humble themselves and seek the face of God for wisdom on how to sing the Lord's song in a foreign land.

  1. Nota, I fear they will not. There is still too much pride and triumphalism in their strident speech.
