Forgiven?

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is this one:

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).

I live in this freedom!

When shame and guilt overwhelm me, I recite this verse and claim the truth It contains.

What is it like to live in the freedom of forgiveness?

Imagine you are thrown into a dungeon in which there is only a sliver of light. You crawl on your knees to feel your way around this cold, damp, dark chamber. All of your being looks for some relief. This is the prison of guilt.

After living In the dungeon of guilt for many years, you hear what sounds like keys rattling in the lock of the door where the slice of light has been shining through. The door swings open. As you are blinded by the blast of light, you hear a voice filled with compassion inviting you to come out of the darkness.

You find your voice and accept the invitation to leave the doom of the guilt.

You walk out in freedom. Every time you find yourself putting yourself in the dungeon of guilt, you turn to the source of the light of forgiveness.
