There is a very old saying that goes this way: “Of the
making of books there is no end.” The same could be said of idols: “Of the
making of idols there is no end.” The prophet, Isaiah, was well aware of this
human trait. He made this observation about human behavior:
“But he also fashions a god and worships it;
he makes an idol and bows down to it.” (Isaiah 44:15)
he makes an idol and bows down to it.” (Isaiah 44:15)
Some of us might protest and say, “I do not have little carved
statues in my house.” We may not have carved statues in our houses but we have
carved out places in our hearts where we have stored other statues created by
our minds. These statues may have the names of power, security, love, power,
and wealth. These idols crave worship just as any wooden idol on a mantle. What
do you worship? – Ron Friesen
