I am writing this the day after the George Zimmerman trial
ended with Mr. Zimmerman being declared “Not guilty” of the charges filed
against him by the county in which he resides. The human quest for justice is
as old as the human race. In Jesus’ day the search for justice was as alive as
it is today. The Gospel writers looked to Jesus to be the one who would right
all the wrongs done to them by their Greek oppressors. They claimed this
promise written by Isaiah 600 years earlier:
“A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick
he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; he
will not falter or be discouraged
till he establishes justice on earth” (Isaiah
42:3-4)
The message is as relevant as it was 2,600 years ago: do
not be discouraged in seeking justice. There is a judge who will bring ultimate
justice even if we do not see it in our lifetime. Keep looking up! – Ron Friesen
Most people don't accept that justice can be deferred to a 'next world.' Don't you think?
ReplyDeleteSo, the more injustice we have here the greater the relief when we get to heaven? I can see that as an explanation.
ReplyDeleteNota and YF, Some people would argue that some future, otherworldly justice means that we do not work for justice in this world. I do not agree with that crowd. I think we work for justice now realizing that the justice we get is an imperfect one. The belief or hope in a future justice comforts those who seek justice because that future justice is a fairer and more just justice. Ron
