Most people, I know, do not intentionally walk away from God.
I have met people who say, “Before I moved to Phoenix 15 years ago, I was
active in First Church in our hometown. We got busy when we moved here and
never really got connected. We were busy camping and then the kids got busy in
sports.” The ancient prophet, Isaiah, notes that our experience is not unlike
his neighbors:
“You have forgotten God your Savior; you have not remembered
the Rock, your fortress.” (Isaiah 17:10).
One definition of spiritual renewal is “remembering.” We are
created for a divine connection. When we get lost in the ordinary busyness of
every day life, it is easy to forget this important reality of our human
existence. When we relay on our bank accounts, 401k plans, our educations, our street
smarts, we are saying we don’t really need to remember God. How will you
remember God today? – Ron Friesen
