Long before there were spy planes and spy satellites, armies
depended on people posted on various high spots to alert them of incoming
forces. The person was often mounted in a watchtower to survey the landscape.
The ancient prophet, Isaiah, aware of this military
strategy, is also aware that there is a need for a spiritual counterpart:
“Day after day, my lord, I stand on the watchtower; every
night I stay at my post. (Isaiah 21:8)
If it is true that we are spiritual beings having a human
experience, we need to post our own watch for those “enemies” that might destroy
our lives. The story of the frog and the water is instructive. If you put a
frog in a pan of hot water, he will immediately jump out. If you put the frog
in a pan of cold water, and heat the water slowly, the frog will remain in the
pan with no regard for his demise. Most of the danger that comes to us that
undermines our spiritual faith does not come with flashing lights and neon
signs. The danger comes in the form of the good and innocent. Slowly we have given
in and settled for the mediocre when God wants the best for us. Be in your
lookout for the outlook! – Ron Friesen
Can you explain danger in the form of good and innocent?
ReplyDeleteYF, I think there is the best and there is the good. Many of us settle for the good because it looks right and is handy. Most of us won't fight the good fight for the best. Ron
