The Christian life is always a life lived in a tension
between resting in our faith and reaching out for more. St. Paul said, “Not
that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but
I press on…” (Philippians 3:12). There is a place for rest; there is a place
for progress. Followers of Jesus understand that their progress is built on
their foundation of security in the Cross. If we rest only in our past
experience, we have nothing. When we lift our eyes to what is yet to be
experienced, then we will have more than experience: we will have a dynamic,
growing revelation of God. – Ron Friesen
