Do you ever wonder
about God’s patience and God’s judgment? The writer of Lamentations reflected
on this question in this way:
For no one is cast off
by the Lord forever.
Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great
is his unfailing love.
For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to
anyone. (Lamentations 3:31-33)
When God seems silent, it is good to know that God will not
be silent forever. It is true that it seems like a long time. Our view of a
long time is skewed by our sense of time. For example, try being silent with a
group of people for a minute – a minute will feel like eternity. It is also
good to know that his judgment is not meaningless or purposeless. There is a
reason for God’s affliction. God has a greater goal for us than just getting
through; God’s goal is the creation of a man or woman who character has been
hammered out on the anvil of life’s difficulties. – Ron Friesen
