As the writer of Lamentations reflects on the judgment of
God, he reminds himself that God’s judgment is tempered with mercy:
He (God) pierced my heart
with arrows from his quiver….
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not
consumed,
for his compassions never fail. (Lamentations 3:13, 22).
When life throws arrows at us we often respond with “STOP! I
can’t take it anymore!” Our definition of tolerance or our capacity for pain is
not the same as God’s. God knows the stubbornness of our hearts and what will
in the end lead to our wills being bent toward his. Be grateful for his
unending compassion for you – even God’s arrows are arrows of love. – Ron Friesen
