Of the speaking of words there is no end. The air is filled
with the cacophony of human voices. We freely offer our observations, our
opinions, and our feelings. It is no different with many followers of Jesus. We
are eager to shout, scream and, sometimes, whisper into the ear of God. This
frantic verbal activity is a sign of our inner turmoil and anxiety. This
tumultuous anxiety is echoed by our inability to turn off our televisions,
radios, iPods, and telephones. If we will stop for a moment, we will hear
heaven say, “Peace, my child, peace.” There is a needed discipline in our
world: the discipline of silence. – Ron Friesen
