“For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:30)
Jesus has two kinds of yokes: a learned yoke and a received
yoke. The learned yoke is the yoke of discipline which leads us to resting in
his wisdom. The received yoke is the yoke that is entered into with the full
knowledge that we are not bearing the yoke alone. A shared yoke means that it
is easy to pull the load making the weight of the burden light. The reason many
followers of Jesus are weary is because they think they are alone carrying the
load of the Good News to the world. The attitude of “It’s me and me alone
against the world,” is contrary to the way of Jesus who invites us to enter
into his yoke. – Ron Friesen
