Embrace your struggles
There is a common idea among many followers of Jesus that
they are exempt from anything resembling suffering or pain, yet, they expect to
become mature disciples. The Scriptures are quite clear that we should not be
surprised if afflictions come our way, (I Peter 4:12), because when they have
completed their work they will make us strong, mature believers (James 1:2-3).
What makes us mature: the affliction or the struggle? We become mature
believers through the perseverance we learn in the struggle. Many followers of
Jesus are immature because they fight against the affliction, the trial, the
struggle. They argue with God, they complain to their neighbor, they harbor
resentment and anger in their affliction. Followers of Jesus who want to grow
in their faith to the full maturity found in Christ embrace their afflictions
and with the Apostle James “count them as joy” (James 1:2) because their
affliction is the opportunity to show the world the life of Jesus in them. –

During time of trials it's hard to keep your head up. Maybe I'm just stubborn. Maybe that's why hard times doesn't get me down that much. I don't know where in the Bible that says upon calling Jesus Lord there will be know more hard times. No more struggle.
ReplyDeleteAaron, Yes, followers of Jesus are not exempt from struggles. It is what we learn from our struggles that make us mature followers of the One who bore the ultimate struggle for us. Thank you for visiting.
