Where is the truth?

For followers of Jesus, discerning truth is an important part of their lives. There are several principles that guide the follower of Jesus. Here is St. Paul’s instruction:

“The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us” (I Corinthians 2:10-12).

There is a Spirit that is searching for truth wherever it can be found especially the truth of God.

You and I understand each other because we share human thinking.

There is a Spirit that understands divine truths.

Followers of Jesus have the Divine Spirit in them that helps them understand the truths of God.

If we consider ourselves followers of Jesus, it is up to us to cultivate the Divine Spirit in us. We do this by studying the Word and prayer. Discernment is also a community activity so we should always test what we are believing with our fellow followers of Jesus.
