Reading the second Palm of the Psalter and newspaper and
internet news headlines these days, it is apparent that not much has changed in
the world in the last 3,000 years. The nations plot war against each other and,
most of all; the rulers of the nations still think they run the world.
And God laughs (Psalm 2:4)
The writer of this psalm, a ruler of a nation himself, knows
that he is not God. Wisdom teaches him that even being anointed by God does not
make him the supreme ruler. You do not have to be president of a nation to
learn the lesson of this psalm. Humility is a necessary human condition
because, if you do not humble yourself, you will be humbled by the
circumstances God orchestrates around you.
God will always get the last laugh if you think you are the
god of your world. – Ron Friesen
